A LIVING
HISTORY
Think
of the possibilities for a community that could display one
of the world's finest collections of rare, early, and first
editions in a classic historical site. Imagine a museum that
includes manuscripts, early editions, and first editions by
Aristotle, George Orwell, Thomas Aquinas and more. This is
the brainchild of the Remnant Trust. The goal of the trust
is to elevate the public's understanding of individual liberty
and human dignity by making some of the world's greatest ideas
available in original form to the general public. Some of
the pieces in this museum date back to as early as 1250. The
Trust has operated out of Hagerstown, Indiana for many years,
serving students, faculty, scholars, and most importantly,
the general public. Now the Trust is relocating to a newly
renovated facility - The Carnegie Library in Jeffersonville,
Indiana.
The interior of the building is being completely restored
to house the exhibit. The facility will include display
and storage areas with a climate-controlled environment,
study space and a learning center for lectures, seminars
and classes. In addition, a one-of-a-kind, three-panel,
bronze relief sculpture, 2005 Years of Liberty in Bronze,
will be displayed in the surrounding Warder Park. The
sculpture portrays a chronology of important individuals
and events which have made major contributions to the
pursuit of human dignity and liberty. |
